Qualifications:  Maine State General Elementary 020 (K-8), or 340M Science (5-8), or 300 Science (7-12) certificate. Experience with interdisciplinary curriculum design and/or project-based learning and comfort with outdoor education and community-based instruction preferred.

Description:  Scarborough Middle School seeks a dynamic middle school teacher to join an integrated instructional team dedicated to delivering standards-based, interdisciplinary learning experiences. This role emphasizes hands-on, experiential education that connects students with the outdoors and their local community. The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering curiosity, independence, and civic engagement while supporting students' academic and social development.

This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about building meaningful relationships with students and developing a lasting learning community, who values innovative teaching practices and is committed to helping students connect learning with real-world experiences while growing into thoughtful, engaged citizens.

Core Responsibilities:   

• Design and implement interdisciplinary, standards-aligned curriculum that integrates core subjects through real-world, outdoor, and community-based learning experiences
• Facilitate hands-on projects that encourage inquiry, problem-solving, and critical thinking
• Guide students in collaborative work, emphasizing teamwork, communication, and shared responsibility
• Support student autonomy by encouraging self-direction, goal-setting, and independent decision-making
• Develop authentic learning experiences driven by student interests and high-engagement topics
• Foster accountability by helping students take ownership of their learning, actions, and personal development
• Build partnerships with local organizations and community members to enhance learning opportunities
