Job Description

At Insmed, every moment and every patient counts — and so does every person who joins in. As a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to transforming the lives of patients with serious and rare diseases, you’ll be part of a community that prioritizes the human experience, celebrates curiosity, and values every person’s contributions to meaningful progress. That commitment has earned us recognition as Science magazine’s No. 1 Top Employer for five consecutive years, certification as a Great Place to Work® in the U.S., and a place on The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list in the UK.

For patients, for each other, and for the future of science, we’re in. Are you?

About the Role:

We’re looking for an Executive Director, Computational Biology on the Biologics Research team to help us expand what’s possible for patients with serious diseases. Our group develops cutting-edge AI-driven protein design and optimization methods, works in close collaboration with experimental teams to apply them in the discovery of next-generation biotherapeutics, and analyzes the resulting data to feed back into models and to guide subsequent rounds of design and engineering. We are actively engineering therapeutic proteins with a variety of functions, from binders to enzymes to viral vectors, with similarly wide-ranging computational design tasks and experimental screening capabilities. Reporting to the Vice President of Research, you’ll lead and expand a team that is pushing the frontiers of modeling, design, and analysis in many corners of the protein universe, collaborating seamlessly with innovative experimental scientists to create translation-ready drug candidates.

What You'll Do:

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to develop and expand advanced computational biology capabilities and support diverse biologics discovery programs. You’ll also:

  • Guide research strategy for AI-based protein design and data science through the lens of biotherapeutic research.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow two outstanding teams of computational biologists (protein design and data science).
  • Coordinate collaborations with experimental teams responsible for drug discovery projects and enabling research platforms.
  • Guide continued integration of computation and experiment as we scale our use of laboratory automation and adopt fit-for-purpose agentic AI-enabled workflows.
  • Partner with adjacent computational research groups, the Information Technology Department, and other key stakeholders to develop and implement overall corporate strategy for advanced computing technologies.

Who You Are:

You have a PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline along with 10 years of experience in computational biology.

You are or you also have:

  • Deep expertise in computational protein design.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team of computational biologists while fostering productive collaborations with experimental scientists.
  • Strong track record of scientific creativity and innovation, pushing the envelope in relevant areas.
  • Thorough understanding of, and hands-on experience with, state-of-the-art deep learning models and methods for protein design and predictive analysis.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the analysis, interpretation, and visualization of diverse data relevant to protein design and engineering; facility with next-generation sequencing data helpful.
  • Ability to partner with Information Technology to buildout and maintain computational and data infrastructure for research and development.
  • Talent for balancing long-term strategic vision with hands-on execution of technical research.

Where You’ll Work

This is a fully remote role. It can be performed effectively from anywhere while staying connected to your Insmed team and community. Occasional travel for team meetings or events will be expected.

Travel Requirements

This role requires occasional global travel (approximately <10%).

Pay Range:
