Position Description

The  Convenience Store Merchandiser – Cooler Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining Wally’s reputation for fully stocked, visually appealing, and guest-ready coolers at all times. This position is responsible for stocking, rotating, merchandising, and organizing all cooler products while balancing speed, accuracy, and guest awareness.

Successful Cooler Specialists are detail-oriented, physically capable, and able to work efficiently in a cold environment while maintaining Wally’s high standards for cleanliness, organization, food safety, and guest service.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

Guest Experience & Professional Standards

  • Guest service is always the top priority and must never be sacrificed for task completion.
  • Acknowledge and assist guests promptly while working in coolers or on the sales floor.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude, even in fast-paced or physically demanding conditions.

Cooler Stocking & Merchandising

  • Stock all beverage, dairy, and refrigerated food items accurately and efficiently.
  • Rotate products using FIFO (First In, First Out) to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing cooler sets that meet Wally’s merchandising standards.
  • Build and maintain end caps, feature sets, and promotional displays as directed.
  • Ensure all pricing, signage, and product placement is accurate and up to date.

Inventory Control & Accuracy

  • Receive, check in, and properly store cooler inventory using handheld inventory devices.
  • Identify and report out-of-stocks, overages, damaged product, or temperature concerns immediately.
  • Maintain backstock organization to support efficient replenishment and inventory counts.
  • Follow all inventory standard operating procedures to ensure accuracy and accountability.

Safety, Cleanliness & Food Handling

  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and temperature control standards.
  • Keep coolers, floors, doors, shelves, and storage areas clean and safe at all times.
  • Immediately address spills, hazards, or equipment concerns.
  • Safely lift, transport, and store product while following proper lifting techniques.

Teamwork & Accountability

  • Work collaboratively with Inventory, C-Store, and other departments to support overall store operations.
  • Follow direction from Inventory Leads and Managers and complete assigned tasks with urgency and accuracy.
  • Take ownership of assigned areas and ensure work is completed to standard before leaving the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support store success.


Position Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred; or up to one-month related experience or training 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  

Basic math and cash handling skills

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems using standard operating procedures. 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.
