Summary:

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all swimming pool users by monitoring activities, enforcing safety rules, and responding quickly to emergencies. This role plays an important part in maintaining a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment while providing excellent guest service.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor swimming pool to ensure the safety of guests or other users at all times.
  • Enforce pool rules, safety guidelines and property policies.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies, including performing water rescue, CPR and first aid as needed.
  • Complete written incident and accident reports when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness of pool area.
  • Conduct routine safety checks of pool and any equipment.
  • Support campground recreation activities when needed.
  • Promote a safe and positive environment for guests of all ages.

  • Frequent in person interactions with families, children and KOA employees in various settings.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification required (American Red Cross, American Lifeguard Association, YMCA Lifeguard Certification or equivalent).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (American Red Cross or equivalent).
  • Strong communication and guest service skills.
  • Ability to remain attentive and focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

 

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior lifeguarding or recreation experience preferred.

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to swim proficiently and perform water rescues.
  • Ability to stand, walk and remain outdoors for extended periods of time.
  • Use of repetitive motion, standing, bending, sitting, lifting, and walking short distances.
  • Potential exposure to dust, pollen, grass and pool chemicals.
  • Maintaining balance while on ladders, working in and around water, on wet surfaces, or on elevated platforms.
  • Will experience occasional interruptions and shifting priorities.
