About the Department

Summary
Provides admissions navigation, transcript evaluation, and testing services to applicants and current students.

Position Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Evaluates incoming new student college transcripts for transfer credit and placement.
  • Coordinates all NC-DAP, CLEP, DANTES, and TEAS testing.  Monitors and oversees any part time proctors.
  • Establishes, collects and analyzes data (quantitative and qualitative) to determine appropriate revisions and modifications to the placement assessment process and coordinates stakeholder discussions of the data and resulting analyses.
  • Identifies, develops & documents new policies & procedures. Designs and delivers related to the placement process.
  • Manages the College’s relationship with NC Residency Determination Service to maintain compliance with all State Residency policies.
  • Manages the College’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) through the Department of Homeland Security, acting as designated school official for International Students with Educational Visa certification.
  • Communicates with department staff to ensure efficient workflow and integrated data usage through student services.
  • Facilitates mandatory reporting for the NCCCS, US Department of Education, and other compliance agencies regarding student data and records.
  • Utilizes Colleague and other admissions data systems to generate personalized, automated communication workflows regarding enrollment steps, process, and progress.
  • Maintains confidential student records and adheres to all FERPA requirements.
  • Assists new students in navigating the enrollment process including advising, new student orientation, financial aid, and registration of first-time students.
  • Tracks and monitors expenses related to placement assessment program. 
  • Represents the college on NCCCS committees on evolving academic placement and testing practices as well as international and residency policies.
  • Serves on various JCC standing committees.
  • Participates in applicable professional organizations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Supervises any part time testing lab proctors

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education Minimum:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University.
 
Experience Minimum:  One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a College or University setting.
 
Experience Preferred:  Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Student Services in a College or University.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
 
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
 
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Computer Skills
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Colleague, OnBase, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to set up and troubleshoot computerized testing.
