Registration & Front Entrance First Responder
(EMT/Paramedic)
Position Summary
The Registration & Front Entrance First Responder serves
as the first clinical and customer-service touchpoint at the
hospital’s main entrance, blending emergency response skills with exemplary
patient access and registration expertise. This role welcomes and stabilizes
arriving patients, initiates rapid assessment as needed, and ensures accurate,
efficient registration and insurance verification in a calm, gracious, and
professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and receive all
patients, families, visitors, and EMS crews at the hospital entrance with
an elite, warm, and composed presence, creating a beautiful first
impression of the organization. - Perform rapid visual
assessment of all arriving patients, promptly identifying those in
distress and initiating first-responder interventions within EMT/Paramedic
scope of practice while activating the clinical team and emergency
protocols. - Collaborate closely
with ED triage nurses and physicians to support safe, timely patient flow
from entrance to the appropriate care area. - Register patients
accurately in the electronic health record, capturing demographics,
contact information, emergency contacts, and guarantor details with
meticulous attention to detail. - Verify insurance
eligibility and benefits in real time using eligibility tools and payer
websites; obtain and document authorizations when required. - Explain financial
responsibility, co-payments, and consent forms in a courteous,
understandable manner; collect co-pays and deposits according to hospital
policy. - Secure required
signatures for consent to treat, financial responsibility, HIPAA, and
other regulatory forms while preserving patient dignity and privacy. - Prepare and print ID
bands, labels, and face sheets; ensure correct patient identification and
labeling for all encounters. - Answer phones and
in-person inquiries at the entrance desk, providing clear directions,
information, and reassurance; escalate clinical concerns to
nursing/medical staff immediately. - Maintain a serene,
orderly, and secure entrance and waiting area, monitoring for safety
issues and following hospital security protocols. - Document all
first-responder care provided and communicate interventions and
observations to nursing and medical staff in a precise, timely manner. - Uphold all HIPAA,
EMTALA, and hospital policies, modeling professional discretion and
respect in every interaction.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Current
certification/licensure as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or
Paramedic, in good standing, required. - Prior experience in emergency
medical services, emergency department, or urgent care preferred. - Demonstrated
experience in patient registration, admissions, or patient access, or
strong aptitude to learn hospital registration workflows. - Working
knowledge of insurance types, basic eligibility concepts, and medical
terminology preferred. - Proficiency
with electronic health records and registration/admitting systems, or the
ability to quickly master new software. - Exceptional
interpersonal, communication, and service skills, with the ability to
remain poised, compassionate, and amiable in high-acuity, fast-paced
situations. - Strong
attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality in handling patient
information and financial data.
