About the role
We are looking for a Senior Associate level lawyer to join one of our leading Professional & Financial Disputes practices in Sydney. In this role you will be working with some of the most highly regarded practitioners in the Australian market across complex professional indemnity, construction and insurance, and commercial disputes matters.
The role will involve working with Partner James Rigney. James' practice involves professional indemnity matters and commercial disputes and along with other Partners in the team, James heads up the firm's Construction PI practice in NSW, which is nationally and globally aligned within the firm as a key area of growth.
Across the broader practice there is a wide mix of work on offer with Partners handling the defence of complex professional indemnity claims on behalf of insurance brokers, with underlying disputes involving financial lines, professional indemnity and commercial disputes.
The practice is known for its excellent training of its lawyers and has provided a platform for growth and promotion in recent years, including a number of senior lawyers being promoted to Partner. The practice is growing and it is a unique opportunity for a smart and ambitious lawyer to continue to develop their professional and personal brand and will involve interaction with our London colleagues in the professional and financial disputes space.
The nature and size of the team will mean that you will be heavily involved in all aspects of matters. Within a supportive environment, this allows you the autonomy and development opportunity to drive and make a significant contribution to the matter outcome. Further, you will be encouraged to foster and generate client relationships and will have the opportunity to engage in business development frequently.
About you
You will be an established lawyer in Australia, New Zealand or overseas, particularly the UK, with the following core competencies:
- A strong general insurance litigation background, ideally with some solid professional indemnity or construction experience is preferred.
- A strong private practice background where you have ideally had exposure to some or all of the types of matters detailed above.
- Strong academic credentials, self-driven with excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Firmly established time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently.
- Commercial awareness and confidence in building a rapport with clients to gain a better understanding of their business' needs and with the assistance of the partners, actively developing these client relationships.
- An ability to lead, delegate and foster a positive team atmosphere is a key element of the role.
