Work Experience Description:

Suitable for students with basic foundational knowledge and little to no practical experience, ideal for freshmen or sophomores who have completed only introductory courses.

Job Summary

Analyze user needs and requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing to improve current and future computer systems and operations university-wide and Lab-wide. Provides technical support to university computer users and academic computing labs for hardware, software, and first-level network connectivity issues.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide both remote and in-person technical support, ensuring prompt and efficient resolution of IT and AV-related issues

  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and fixes, including hardware/software installation, upgrades, system configuration, file backups, and security remediation (e.g., virus mitigation).

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Apple-based systems, printers, copiers, scanners, and other hardware/software resources, ensuring functionality and compliance with licensing requirements.

  • Manage regular system maintenance tasks such as software updates, patches, drivers, backups, and network monitoring, resolving issues caused by malfunctions or network interruptions.

  • Assist in IT security support and help maintain accurate IT asset records, including inventory tracking, equipment transfers, surplus, and disposal.

  • Provide guidance and training to users on supported software, hardware, and tools, creating and updating technical documentation for knowledge base purposes.

  • Collaborate on IT projects such as system upgrades, migrations, and deployments.

  • Set up, test, and tear down AV equipment (e.g., projectors, displays, sound systems, cameras, switchers) for classrooms, meetings, events, and presentations.

  • Provide real-time AV support during live events, troubleshooting audio/video issues, assisting rehearsals, and ensuring systems meet event requirements.

  • Maintain, clean, and store AV equipment, track inventory levels, and update equipment management records.

  • Support senior IT and AV staff with specialized system configurations and contribute to documentation, reports, and process improvements.

  • Maintain accurate logs of equipment usage, service schedules, and technical problems.

  • Participate in on-the-job training and assist with the adoption of new technologies.

  • Must exemplify the University Honor Code, including dress and grooming standards.

  • Preference will be given to students who can work during academic breaks.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
