Job Title: Laboratory Processing Technician
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Processing Technician is responsible for receiving, handling, preparing, and processing laboratory specimens for testing and analysis. This role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards while supporting laboratory operations and maintaining high-quality results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, label, and log incoming specimens accurately into the laboratory system
- Prepare samples for testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and proper storage
- Verify specimen integrity and resolve discrepancies or labeling issues
- Gather all the appropriate documents for submitting with the samples
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all laboratory activities
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to established protocols
- Follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., OSHA, CLIA)
- Communicate effectively with lab staff, supervisors, and other departments
- Assist in inventory management, including stocking and ordering supplies
- Dispose of biohazard materials in compliance with safety regulations
- Support quality control procedures and participate in audits when required
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred
- Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience is a plus
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and basic medical terminology
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS)
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Capability to lift and move light to moderate loads (up to 25 lbs)
- Manual dexterity for handling specimens and lab equipment
Work Environment:
- Clinical or diagnostic laboratory setting
- Exposure to biological materials and chemicals (proper PPE provided)
