About the Department
Working with the Office of the Ottawa County Water Resources Commissioner (OCWR), this internship supports the digitization, organization, and management of historical and current drain records, all of which are critical for efficient office operations and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include indexing files, reviewing documentation, and assisting with integrating easement information into ESRI GIS to enhance the spatial accuracy of county drainage infrastructure.
Candidates should be independent workers with strong attention to detail and proficiency with digital tools.
This internship will be part-time, working up to 35 hours per week. Typical working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be based out of the Fillmore Complex located at 12220 Fillmore Street, West Olive, MI 49460.
Position Duties
- Review and organize legal documents, easements, development files, and historical drain records.
- Index and assign digital placement for scanned and existing documents.
- Support GIS integration of easement and infrastructure information.
- Collaborate with staff to understand record structures and apply consistent indexing.
- Assist with data management projects and special mapping tasks.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- Minimum of six completed credit hours at an accredited college or university.
- Preferred coursework or experience in GIS, geospatial technology, environmental systems, engineering, or related areas.
Other Qualifications
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency with computers and digital document organization; familiarity with spreadsheets and document management software.
- Proficient in ESRI GIS through coursework and hands-on experience editing and creating line, point, and polygon features.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while seeking assistance when necessary.
