Position Summary:

Since 1961, the Wellborn family has owned and operated Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. The goal is to provide kitchen and bath cabinets crafted by dedicated Wellborn employees with the utmost quality and care. Today, over 55 years later, the product line has broadened to include cabinetry and storage solutions to help maximize the total home living space. The purpose of this position is to help carry out responsibilities that will continue to make Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. the most valued provider of permanent home cabinets designed for a lifetime of gracious living. This position is also nationally certified through the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) on a global level.

 

The incumbent in this position supports the activities and responsibilities of the Sawmill department

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

n  Inspects and grades milled, rough sawn, kiln dried, surfaced, or dimensional lumber.

n  Examines lumber on a computer, moving belt, chain conveyor, or in racks.

n  Checks for defects such as knots, stains, decay, splits, faulty edges, pitch pockets, wormholes, and defective milling.

n  Grades lumber to ensure the correct values of each piece.

n  Marks lumber to designate a grade and process instructions.

n  Records pieces of limber according to grade and board footage.

n  Determines cuts to obtain the highest marketable value from various species of lumber.

n  Removes unsatisfactory pieces of raw material to prevent the company from buying and/or selling undesirable products.

n  Calculates board footage and records results

n  Works directly with manager and lumber buyers to retain and maintain great working relationships with suppliers.

n  Draws and interprets grade breakdowns by computing rates, ratios, and percentages.

n  Use of grading stick, computer and tape measure.

n  Great verbal and written communication skills.

n  Must be team oriented, interactive, and possess strong communication skills.

n  Ability to stay-on-task following safety guidelines and work process procedures.

n  Must be a self-starter who works well under pressure and can follow a list of daily work assignments.

n  Must have a common knowledge of basic arithmetic skills including but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals, fractions, and whole numbers.

n  Possesses a willingness to learn new ways to enhance productivity.

n  Willingness to embark on a journey of continuous growth through available courses and trainings.
