POSITION DESCRIPTION


 


POSITION TITLE: Wee-3 Preschool Teacher


 


FLSA:   Exempt


 


REPORTS TO:  Principal and Assistant Superintendent for Support Services


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  200 Days

REQUIRED: 


 


Must currently hold, or be eligible for, a Virginia teacher license with dual endorsement in the following areas: Early/Primary Education PreK-3 (will consider Elementary Education PreK-6) and Special Education Early Childhood, Birth-Age 5.


 


FOCUS:        


 


The Early Childhood Teacher will provide special education services to preschool students who have been identified as students with disabilities served within an inclusive classroom setting. The teacher is responsible for an assigned special education caseload across multiple school sites. Primary work duties include the following: the development of individualized educational programs, lesson plan development, classroom material adaptations, and designing activities in alignment with the curriculum in order to assist the students in meeting their IEP goals within the general education setting. In addition to providing direct student services, the early childhood teacher will also collaborate with general education teachers and other related services staff, consult with the IEP team, and develop specialized instructional materials as needed for student’s use in the general education setting. Additional opportunities to coach teachers new to the High Scope curriculum and direct needed modifications and adaptations to the curriculum, as needed, to increase student accessibility to instruction.


 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Provide direct services to identified students with disabilities to address IEP goals and objectives.

  • Engage in formal and informal assessment activities.

  • Serve as a member of the IEP team and consult with other team members regarding appropriate program planning.

  • Coordinate the provision of services outlined in the IEP.

  • Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.

  • Evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.

  • Monitor and communicate student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.


OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.

  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy and administrative regulation.

  • Serve on committees as assigned.

  • Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g. instructional technology)

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
