Job Summary/Basic Functions


FYL's are high-achieving students, role models, and mentors inside and outside the classroom through the Office of First-Year Courses and Learning Communities. FYL's are assigned to be a peer mentor within a GSD 101-Foundation of Learning- Student Success Seminar Course during the fall semester where they will attend their assigned class to offer support to first-year students. If selected to be a FYL, students would be required to register for GST 300 "Principles of Peer Mentoring/Tutoring" which meets on MW-2:00-3:20pm that will provide training and support throughout the semester.






Minimum Qualifications



  • Full-time undergraduate students enrolled at EKU who have completed GSD 101 or Student Success Seminar and have a 3.0 GPA.






Job Duties:



  • Assist first-year students enrolled in a GSD 101 course during the fall semester by attending an assigned class and working with the instructor to facilitate classroom activities and discussion, provide information, and support students in group and one-on-one settings.

  • Attend all scheduled GST 300 class meetings and complete assignments.

  • Attend trainings during the spring semester and in August in preparation for Fall. - (Essential)
