The Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher at West Perry Elementary School is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students in grades 6–8 that promotes growth in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. The teacher will create a safe, engaging, and student-centered classroom environment while supporting the mission and expectations of Perry County Schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver daily standards-based instruction aligned to Kentucky Academic Standards for English Language Arts.
- Teach reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing process, literature analysis, research skills, and communication skills.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all learners.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and student engagement practices.
- Assess student learning regularly through formative and summative assessments.
- Analyze student data to guide instruction and improve student achievement.
- Maintain accurate grades, attendance, and student records in district systems.
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture with clear expectations and consistent routines.
- Implement classroom management strategies that support student success.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic concerns.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, interventionists, and administrators.
- Participate in PLC meetings, faculty meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Support school-wide academic goals, testing initiatives, and improvement plans.
- Supervise students during assigned duties such as bus duty, hallway duty, lunch duty, or extracurricular activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student and school matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or district administration.
