Job Description

The Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher at West Perry Elementary School is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students in grades 6–8 that promotes growth in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. The teacher will create a safe, engaging, and student-centered classroom environment while supporting the mission and expectations of Perry County Schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver daily standards-based instruction aligned to Kentucky Academic Standards for English Language Arts.
  • Teach reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing process, literature analysis, research skills, and communication skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all learners.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and student engagement practices.
  • Assess student learning regularly through formative and summative assessments.
  • Analyze student data to guide instruction and improve student achievement.
  • Maintain accurate grades, attendance, and student records in district systems.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture with clear expectations and consistent routines.
  • Implement classroom management strategies that support student success.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic concerns.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, interventionists, and administrators.
  • Participate in PLC meetings, faculty meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Support school-wide academic goals, testing initiatives, and improvement plans.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties such as bus duty, hallway duty, lunch duty, or extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student and school matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or district administration.
