The Program

We are launching a commercial property program to underwrite small and middle-market businesses on an E&S basis nationwide. Coverage will be written on a monoline basis. We will be pursuing risks in the, habitational, warehousing, office, service, and retail sectors, with planned expansions over time.

The Role

The Commercial Property Underwriter will be an integral part of the Commercial P&C team, reporting to the Commercial Property Underwriting Leader. This position is based in our Westlake, TX office, with remote work options available for eligible candidates. They will underwrite all coverages and classes we offer on both an admitted and non-admitted basis. This position will work closely with our appointed retail agents and wholesale brokers to underwrite new business, larger renewals, and highly technical transactions. Performance will be primarily measured by profitability, growth, and agency management.

The Commercial Property Underwriter will have an array of resources to be successful and able to focus on the key tasks that deliver results. A team of underwriting assistants in a service center will handle most post bind transactions. The national sales team will appoint new agents and wholesale brokers, source new business submissions, and provide insights during the agency review process. Our technology roadmap will deliver an optimized underwriting process and minimize manual entry through automation and integration. Our proprietary software platform houses rating, issuance, documentation, and workflow in a single place to simplify the underwriting process.

Our Structure

We will have a team of underwriters responsible for new business, renewals, and highly technical transactions. Underwriters will be supported by a team of underwriting assistants responsible for post bind service transactions. We have a proprietary all-in-one software platform to optimize the underwriting process for rating, issuance, documentation, and workflow. A national sales team will appoint new wholesale brokers, source new business, and provide insights during the brokerage review process. Our structure will evolve over time as additional products go live, incorporating differentiation based on account size, complexity, and agency type.

• We are seeking candidates with approximately 5 to 20+ years of multi-line commercial underwriting experience. Titles will be commensurate with experience and future expectations.
• Ability to underwrite small-to-large TIV risks with complex insuring needs across a wide range of commercial occupancies.
• Primary property underwriting experience with emphasis on high hazard CAT and non-CAT perils.
• Prior history of underwriting shared and layered business on a follow form and manuscript basis.
• Proven long-term relationships with nationally recognized retail agencies and wholesale brokerage companies and teams.
• Advanced knowledge of technical underwriting, form language, and the competitive landscape.
• Ability to take a consultative approach with agents to differentiate ourselves on new business, renewals, services, and establish strong relationships.
