Position Summary

Adjunct Instructor of American Sign Language (ASL)
Part-Time | One-Semester Appointment

Guilford College, a residential liberal arts college, invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Instructor of American Sign Language (ASL) for a one-semester appointment. The instructor will teach an undergraduate ASL course emphasizing language acquisition, Deaf culture, and inclusive communication in alignment with the college’s mission of engaged, student-centered learning.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned ASL course(s) consistent with approved course outcomes
     

  • Use effective, inclusive pedagogy appropriate for a liberal arts learning environment
     

  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback
     

  • Maintain appropriate availability for students and submit grades and course materials in accordance with college and SACSCOC expectations
     

Required Qualifications

  • Fluency in American Sign Language
     

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture
     

  • Teaching experience in ASL or relevant professional experience
     

  • Commitment to undergraduate education and inclusive learning practices
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in ASL, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, Education, or a related field
     

  • Prior teaching experience at the college level
