Job Description

Title: Maintenance Mechanic
Department: Campus Operations – Maintenance
Employment Status: Full Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Maintenance Foreman

Job Purpose

To perform basic skilled and semi-skilled work in the repair and maintenance of Wagner College buildings and all campus-related facilities.

Duties/Responsibilities Essential Functions
  • Perform general construction, maintenance, and repair work requiring knowledge in multiple trades, including general maintenance, carpentry, painting, and masonry.
  • Perform a variety of tasks involving electrical, plumbing, roof repair, painting, carpentry, and flooring in campus buildings and facilities.
  • Use and maintain common hand tools and power tools of the trade.
  • Frequently lift and move heavy or large objects.
  • Construct, install, and repair building supports, fixtures, and accessories.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Communicate with the Foreman and Assistant Foreman regarding materials and tools needed to complete work orders.
  • Sign off on completed work orders using the online work order system via mobile device, tablet, or computer.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None.
Qualifications Work Experience
  • Prior maintenance or related field experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of building trades and facility maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing methods, tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Basic knowledge of techniques used in painting, carpentry, roofing, and floor maintenance.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision or instruction.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and assigned work orders.
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certifications
  • None required.
Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Desired Work Traits
  • Strong initiative with the ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
  • Availability to work overtime when needed for important campus events such as Open House, Homecoming, Commencement, and athletic events. These dates are generally posted in advance on the campus events calendar.
Communication/Interpersonal Skills
  • Good telephone skills for interacting with outside vendors and ordering materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various campus constituencies.
Computer Skills
  • Basic ability to use mobile devices, tablets, or computers for work order systems.
Special Considerations
  • This position is included in the Local 3 bargaining unit and is subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Local 3 and Wagner College.
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary.
  • Ability to wear and work with required safety masks and protective equipment.
  • Some conditions may require exposure to varying temperatures, dust, dirt, and noise from equipment.
  • Some conditions may require climbing, lifting, or moving heavy and large objects.
