Scope of Position:
The Tool & Die Maker is a key member of the MWT team responsible for the design, development, fabrication and maintenance of tooling to meet the company’s manufacturing needs. This position requires working closely with supervisors, project leaders, and engineers to ensure the timely delivery of quality tooling that meets customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design and build tooling with input from Supervisor, Tooling Manager and Project Leaders
- Interact with Designers/Project Leaders/Apprentices to develop (high volume) manufactural components with an eye for product improvement and potential build issues
- Ensure that the customer’s requirements, which include project timing, part quality and delivery are understood and met
- Consider alternative solutions for given tasks or problems
- Maintain job folder/electronic data and ensure proper job closure
- Be responsible for all parameters of assigned tasks
- Review project direction with Project Leader
- Keep supervisor informed of all program issues
- Assign tasks to co-workers as per direction of supervisor
- Provide training, guidance and assistance to co-workers as required
- Ensure adequate communication with other program team members
- Maintain accurate timesheets and ensure they are completed on time
- Follow all documented quality procedures
- Observe all company safety rules, policies and procedures
- Attend all required training courses
- Document/present information obtained from conferences and training courses as required
- Participate in MAMT’s continuous improvement activities
- Ensure the shop environment is kept safe, clean and organized to enable timely and safe manufacturing techniques
- Foster good employee relations
- Perform all other duties as determined by the General Manager or his/her designate
Basic Requirements:
- Tool and Die Maker Certification or equivalent
- 5 to 7 years of experience as a tool & die maker
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool design, maintenance, and fabrication
- Knowledge of GD&T, CAD
- Ability to delegate work
- Basic knowledge of industry standard Windows applications
- Successful completion of Lift Truck Safety Course and Crane Operation and Safety Training
- Ability to work in a shop environment, standing for long periods and lifting heavy tools or materials
