ACI Concrete Inspector
Requirements
Concrete Inspector Certification Requirements:
To qualify as Concrete Inspector, candidates must meet at least one of the following:
Option A:
- Minimum of 6 years satisfactory experience as a Level II inspector/tester in the relevant category.
- Complete training and pass examinations administered by the stamp holder covering quality assurance aspects specific to nuclear facilities and the ASME Code.
- Pass the Concrete Construction Special Inspector Exam by the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
Option B:
- High school diploma plus 10 years of related experience in inspection/testing activities; OR
- High school diploma plus 8 years related experience, including at least 2 years as Level II and at least 2 years related to nuclear facilities.
- Complete training and pass examinations administered by the stamp holder covering quality assurance aspects specific to nuclear facilities and the ASME Code.
- Pass the Concrete Construction Special Inspector Exam by ACI.
Option C:
- Associate degree or equivalent college-level coursework.
- At least 7 years related experience in inspection/testing, with a minimum of 2 years associated specifically with nuclear facilities.
- Complete training and pass examinations administered by the stamp holder covering quality assurance aspects specific to nuclear facilities and the ASME Code.
- Pass the Concrete Construction Special Inspector Exam by ACI.
Option D:
- Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college.
- At least 5 years related experience in inspection/testing, with a minimum of 2 years associated specifically with nuclear facilities.
- Complete training and pass examinations administered by the stamp holder covering quality assurance aspects specific to nuclear facilities and the ASME Code.
- Pass the Concrete Construction Special Inspector Exam by ACI.
Physical Capabilities: (verified by examination every 2 years)
- Near vision: Natural or corrected acuity sufficient to read J-I letters on Jaeger’s chart or equivalent.
- Distance vision: Natural or corrected acuity of at least 20-40 on the Linear Snellen Scale.
- Adequate color vision, if applicable.
Technical Competencies:
- Extensive experience and formal training in performing inspections/tests.
- Completion of formal education in principles and techniques of relevant inspections/tests.
- Capability to plan, supervise, review, approve, evaluate, and certify inspection/test activities and procedures.
- Ability to organize, report, and validate inspection and test results.
- Must be certified or certifiable in Vacuum Box Testing.
Performance Functions Requiring Level III Certification:
- Witnessing and evaluating laboratory design or concrete mix testing per Construction Specifications.
- Approval of concrete batching and mixing facilities.
- Approval of quality control inspection and testing procedures.
- Developing training and certification programs for Level I and Level II personnel.
- Evaluating Level I and Level II certification exams.
- Certifying Level I and Level II personnel.
