Job Description

About the Department

The City of Lansing Parks & Recreation Department is looking for Part-Time Junior Tennis & Leadership Year-Round Instructors to assist in coaching and mentoring diverse groups of youth between 6 and 18 years of age. This is a TEA (Temporary Employment Agreement) contractual position.  As a Junior Instructor, you will learn from the Instructors and Tennis Program Director and assist them in providing the youth in our programs the tools necessary to be successful in school and community through leadership and life skills development. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with tennis instruction in a positive, fun environment with as much individual attention as possible
  • Exemplifying life skills and modeling leadership for all participants 
  • Assisting program and site directors on all field trips while assuming responsibility for tennis program participants

Minimum Requirements include:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age; proof of documentation is REQUIRED as part of the application process (i.e. birth certificate, passport, ID, etc.)
  • Experience in playing/instructing tennis, specifically teaching tennis progressions from the USTA for beginners to competitive tennis players at  high school level is PREFERRED AND/OR experience in playing/instructing other sports may be acceptable.
