Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Underwriting Assistant to play a key leadership and operational role within our underwriting department. This individual will be responsible for managing day-to-day post-issuance servicing activities, with a focus on endorsements, and will define what underwriting information is gathered, how it is collected, and the service standards applied. As the portfolio grows, the Senior Underwriting Assistant will help build and lead a team, contribute to process optimization and automation, and ensure all servicing functions operate at a high standard. The ideal candidate will bring strong underwriting expertise, preferably from the carrier side, with hands-on experience across multiple commercial lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and scale post-issuance service capabilities to ensure an exceptional customer experience.
- Serve as a subject matter expert across our commercial lines’ portfolio, including General Liability, Business Auto, Property, Inland Marine, Excess, Professional Liability, and more.
- Act as a key liaison between underwriting, operations, and distribution partners to enhance workflows and implement technology-driven solutions.
- Support the development and documentation of underwriting standards, processes, and service-level protocols.
- Mentor, train, and oversee a team of underwriting assistants, with a focus on building an efficient and accountable service culture.
- Ensure adherence to state-specific regulatory requirements, carrier guidelines, and E&S compliance standards.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of multi-line commercial insurance experience, ideally within a carrier environment.
- In-depth knowledge of General Liability, Business Auto, Commercial Property, and related lines.
- Familiarity with the Excess & Surplus (E&S) market is highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and build high-performance teams in a dynamic environment.
