Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Molding Technical Manager will provide directions to the technical staff and maintenance supervisors as well as provide technical leadership to ensure that Molding processes have the capability and reliability to meet performance requirements to enable the department to achieve its targets. This position is also responsible for food safety and quality procedures to ensure that the Company’s objectives for food safety and quality meet or exceed customer’s and regulatory agency’s requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Injection Molding & Process Excellence
- Lead high-speed thin-wall injection molding operations (IML / non-IML)
- Optimize process parameters including fill speed, cooling, venting, and cycle time
- Troubleshoot defects (short shots, warpage, burns, cosmetic issues)
- Apply scientific molding and process validation methodologies
Tooling & Mold Engineering
- Oversee mold design and performance (hot runners, stack molds, multi-cavity tools)
- Manage tool qualification, maintenance strategies, and lifecycle planning
- Coordinate with external vendors and tooling suppliers
- Drive improvements in tool reliability and uptime
Maintenance & Reliability
- Own maintenance strategy (preventive, predictive, corrective)
- Improve equipment reliability across presses, robotics, and auxiliary systems
- Lead CMMS utilization and data-driven decision making
- Develop maintenance team capabilities
Automation & Technology
- Support and optimize high-speed robotics and automation systems
- Oversee integration of vision systems and downstream automation
- Evaluate ROI on automation investments and improvements
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and risk assessments
Continuous Improvement
- Drive improvements in OEE (uptime, performance, quality)
- Lead cost reduction, scrap reduction, and efficiency initiatives
- Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies (A3, DMAIC, 8D)
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead and develop technical, maintenance, and engineering teams
- Partner with Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain
- Provide clear direction during downtime or production challenges
- Build strong technical bench strength and succession plans
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety (HACCP), cGMP, and regulatory standards
- Maintain robust documentation and change management processes
- Champion a culture of safety and accountability
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Business, or related field
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in high-volume manufacturing
- 3–5+ years in a technical leadership role
- Strong expertise in injection molding (thin-wall, high-speed preferred)
- Experience with automation, robotics, and tooling systems
- Proven track record in continuous improvement and operational performance
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Work Environment
- Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment
- Regular exposure to a fast-paced, high-volume production setting
