Job Title: Paraprofessional Preschool

Position Summary: To support the lead teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children. This role involves assisting with classroom activities, supervising children, and helping implement developmentally appropriate curriculum that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

· Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing daily lessons and activities
· Support children’s learning through play, instruction, and guided interaction
· Supervise children in the classroom, playground, and during transitions to ensure safety at all times
· Help prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized classroom environment
· Assist with meals, snacks, toileting, and other daily care routines
· Observe and document children’s behavior and developmental progress as directed
· Encourage positive behavior and model appropriate social interactions
· Communicate effectively with the lead teachers, coworkers, and administration
· Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in accordance with licensing requirements
· Adhere to policies/procedures of Strasburg School District in addition to preschool specific policies/procedures
Job Requirements:
· Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds
· Ability to actively engage with children throughout the day
· Ability to sit on the floor with children
· Ability to move on and off the floor without assistance
· Diapering duties as needed
· Complete required childcare trainings (15 hours of ongoing professional development annually)
· Ability to be flexible within job duties and throughout the elementary school as needed
· Must pass CBI and TRAILS background checks
· Must maintain confidentiality regarding student records, behavior, health needs, and family information in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, and/or Training Required:
· High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred
· CO Shines Early Childhood Credential (must acquire within first 90 days of employment)
· Experience working with young children (daycare, preschool, or similar setting) preferred
· Ability to work collaboratively with and take direction from the lead teacher
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Patience, flexibility, and a genuine interest in working with children
Physical Demands: This position requires a combination of sitting (in short chairs and on the floor), standing, and walking throughout the day. The employee may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and frequently lift up to 10 pounds. Occasional activities include stooping, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching, and performing fine motor tasks. Frequent activities include sitting, standing, walking, balancing, reaching at multiple levels (floor to tall cupboards), and simple grasping. The role requires constant ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively.
Work Environment: Work is performed in office, classroom and/or other educational settings.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Days / Terms of Employment: 151 Days / Ten-month position. Salary to be determined by the School Board of Education.
