Description
Under the leadership of the Pastor, the Director of Liturgy is responsible for the preparation and celebration of Catholic Liturgy and Rituals. He/She provides leadership in the planning, execution, and celebration of all parish liturgies, and coordinates other liturgical ministries; also educates the parish in areas of liturgy according to the vision of the Second Vatican Council and assumes administrative responsibilities relevant to the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Pastoral Minister as Person of Faith.
As a pastoral minister, the Director of Liturgy has the responsibility to nurture his or her own faith in order to nurture the faith of others.
Pastoral Minister as Educator
The pastoral minister is to educate the parish in areas of liturgy according to the vision of the Second Vatican Council.
· Helps the parish grow in its understanding of liturgy in the Church.
· Ensures the parish worship conforms to the liturgical norms and laws of the Church.
· Educates the assembly and provides input for parish organizations in matters of liturgical understanding, sensitivity, and planning.
· Serves as a resource person in liturgy for the religious education process.
· Coordinates and supervises the formation, training, and scheduling of all parish liturgical ministers (sacristans, altar servers, musicians, ministers of hospitality, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, Eucharistic linens helpers, altar guild, AV ministry, Art & Environment, etc.).
· Fosters parishioner participation in parish’s liturgical life.
Liturgical Minister
Under the leadership of the pastor, the responsibility of the Director of Liturgy involves various duties as a liturgical minister.
· Plans the liturgy (working with the priests and Liturgy Commission) including leading the Liturgy Commission.
· Secures proper copyrights for all worship participation aids.
· Works with the Director of Faith Formation and education staff in the preparation of children's liturgies.
· Provides and maintains the appropriate church environment for all the liturgical seasons according to the specifications of the Church documents.
· Oversees the provision of needed materials for worship such as worship aids and audiovisual projections; coordinates with the AV ministry and prepares AV projections as needed.
· Collaborates with the parish team in the preparation and execution of all parish/school liturgies.
Pastoral Minister as Administrator
· Makes liturgical policies in conjunction with the Liturgy Commission and pastoral staff, taking into consideration Diocesan and national guidelines.
· Formulates an annual budget for the parish liturgical program in consultation with parish accountant.
· Maintains current records on all liturgical ministers.
· Maintains library of current liturgical resources.
· Maintains inventory and orders the supplies needed for the liturgies and sacramental celebrations.
· Oversees the handling and use of vestments, vessels, linens, etc.; maintains order in all liturgical ministers’ areas (sacristy, choir area, audiovisual room, etc.).
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH
Practice of the Catholic faith is required. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in Sacramental Theology, Scripture, Pastoral Studies, Music, or a related field and certification in Liturgical studies or certification in a diocesan liturgical formation and certification program for liturgical ministry; minimum 5 years’ experience in liturgical functions; thorough knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy and liturgical preparation, principles of catechesis, fundamental theology, Scripture, and sacramental theology. Proficient in audiovisual production, ProPresenter, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, YouTube, and RealPlayer. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
· A high level of organizational and interpersonal skill is required. Attention to detail and working well with others is also required.
· Ability to read and analyze routine correspondence and compose appropriate responses. Ability to respond effectively to common inquiries from internal and external sources.
· Ability to effectively present reports and information to constituents.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
