Position Summary

You will be responsible for leading the month end close process and drive accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP. In this highly visible role, you will work cross-functionally with leaders across the company to ensure the close is completed timely and support the business by providing accounting guidance on various initiatives.  You will oversee accounting issues, streamline process, enhance accounting systems and develop, implement controls enabling them to scale.

ScheduleThis position is in-office from Monday – Thursday in our new Burlington, MA location, with flexibility to work remotely on Fridays. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the month end close.
  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Regular review and analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Drive the timely completion of the annual audit.  Act as a primary point of contact throughout the audit process for external/internal auditors and consultants.
  • Oversight of the accounts payable team and workstream, providing support and leadership.
  • Oversee accounting and technical matters related to investments, leases, equity, stock compensation and any other complex areas.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of the consolidation including the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statements.
  • Research various technical accounting matters, conclude on the proper U.S. GAAP treatment, document technical accounting memos and present to Senior Management and/or external auditors as needed.
  • Provide leadership of the Company’s T&E Policy and Credit Card Program.
  • Develop, document and maintain accounting policies, including updating or developing new policies to ensure consistency and compliance with GAAP and other reporting requirements. 
  • Provide ongoing training of Company’s accounting policies.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of process improvements including automation within the ERP and other tools where possible, to simplify, standardize and streamline processes.
  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
  • Ad hoc projects as needed.


Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of accounting experience, including 2+ years in a public company within Lifesciences/Biotech/Medtech/Tech/ Manufacturing industry.
  • CPA required; a Master’s degree in accounting is preferred.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in Big 4 or large regional accounting firm is preferred.
  • Expertise and experience in U.S. GAAP and SOX.
  • Strong strategic mindset with the ability to manage multiple deliverables and projects.
  • Detail-oriented with hands-on approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Suite.

The salary range Vericel reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting is $120,000 to $130,000 annually.

The actual salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and skills. Bonus, incentive pay, equity and benefits may be provided in addition to the base compensation listed above.
