The Small Business Student Worker will support the Center for Economic Development (CED) by assisting with small business outreach, event coordination, marketing initiatives, and administrative operations. This position provides students with hands-on experience in community engagement, business development, research, and program support while contributing to initiatives that promote small business growth and economic impact.
Responsibilities:
Assist with planning small business workshops, trainings, and events.
Provide support in digital marketing efforts including social media content, email campaigns, and outreach materials.
Conduct market research and collect data to support small business development initiatives.
Assist with preparing presentations, reports, charts, and program materials (PowerPoint, Canva, etc.).
Provide outreach support by distributing program information and engaging with community members and small businesses.
Help analyze data collected from programs and workshops for impact reporting and outcomes.
Provide administrative and logistical support to CED staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in the College of Engineering at Prairie View A&M University. (Minimum of 9 credit hours during the regular fall and spring semesters and 6 semester credit hours for the summer semester).
Must be in good academic standing.
Knowledge or experience in community development, construction, construction sciences, business, finance, accounting, social sciences, public policy, or a related field.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrated commitment to community service and outreach.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Excel, and other online tools.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to organize, analyze, and present information clearly
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Strong attention to detail and time management skills
Ability to engage professionally with community stakeholders and small business owners
Preferred Qualifications:
Major in Business, Marketing, Communications, Economics, Agriculture, Public Administration, or related field
Interest in entrepreneurship, small business development, or economic development or community development
Familiarity with Canva or other design tools
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Basic understanding of small business operations or entrepreneurship
Knowledge of government contracting (preferred but not required)
Experience with data collection, surveys, or program evaluation
Creative skills in marketing, branding, and content creation
