POSITION:     GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

COMMENCING DATE: JULY 1, 2026

QUALIFICATIONS:    

1. AA Certification in School Counseling   Endorsement Area 436.
2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
3. Strong human relation skills.
4. A philosophy of school counseling which includes the providing of:

• academic leadership,
• curriculum knowledge,
• a safe, orderly and effective school climate,
• high performance expectations,
• parent and community involvement, and
• a standard operation procedure that promotes two-way communications and grass roots input in the decision-making process.

    Additional Preferred: 

• Experience as a school counselor.
• Successful experience in managing a growing, modern comprehensive high school guidance program.

* Good physical condition with ability to lift 10 pounds


JOB DESCRIPTION: The Guidance Counselor is a facilitator of student learning, who, as a member of the educational team, is committed to improving the learning process by promoting the social, emotional, moral, and mental well-being of the students and striving to fulfill the philosophy of the school, within the policies established by the Board of Trustees.  To function effectively, the counselor must work cooperatively with students, teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, citizens and organizations in the community.


SALARY: Commensurate with the Ocean Springs salary schedule for certified positions for the 2026-2027 school year.

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:    215 days - Certified/Exempt
