Summary: This position reports
to a Sr. Specialist or Sr. Supervisor. The purpose of this position is to
provide varying levels of support for individuals with disabilities to
participate in general recreation class offerings. This role provides direct
support to community members and requires excellent communication skills. 

Work Schedule: Hours may include evenings and weekends and vary seasonally. In the
summer, 20-40 hours per week may be available. In all other seasons, 5-10 hours
a week or less may be available. 

Essential job
functions:
The following duties and responsibilities are
illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to
be all-inclusive. 
-Assist with inclusion and support of participants with disabilities into City of Fort Collins general recreation offerings as assigned.
-Utilize a spectrum of tools and techniques to provide varying levels of inclusion support.
-Communicate effectively with staff, parents, supportive living staff, school teachers and other participants.
-Complete all required preparation and post program documentation to support an individual’s overall inclusion goals.
-Complete all documentation, incident/accident reports, and other required forms in a timely manner.
-Act as part of an interdisciplinary team by contributing ideas, attending staff meetings, and completing required trainings.
-Act as an advocate for people with disabilities; provide disability awareness information, emphasize the individual's abilities and similarities, and de-emphasize the differences.
-Attend all orientations, meetings, in-services, and related workshops as indicated by supervisor.
-Provide input and planning for programs, modifications, and adaptive equipment.
-Work with a spectrum of ages and ability levels in a professional and age-appropriate manner.
-Represent the City in a positive, professional and healthy manner.

Lead Inclusive
Recreation Aide Duties 

-Meet all duties listed above.
-Support Inclusion Aides in their daily tasks by providing breaks, additional assistance in inclusion services, documentation support, etc.
-Model ongoing inclusive education and strategies to staff.
-Communicate directly with Inclusion Aides and Inclusion Coordinator.
-Plan and facilitate weekly sensory-based programs under the guidance of Inclusion Coordinator.
-Work independently.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is not responsible for the supervision of employees or volunteers.

 Job qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,
skills and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this
position.

Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities: 

-High school degree or GED required, bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
-Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
-Must demonstrate dependability, promptness and punctuality.
-Ability to work independently without supervision and to make sound judgement calls.
-Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals receiving support, coworkers, recreation staff, camp staff, parents and other community contacts.
-Ability to operate basic office equipment and electronic apps for documentation and communication.
-Preferred experience working with individuals with disabilities.
 
 Language Skills: Ability to read
instructions and communicate with City supervisor and the general public. Ability to
effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, groups
of clients, parents, customers, and the general public. Knowledge of American
Sign Language and Spanish desirable, but not required 
  
 Reasoning Ability: 
Ability to solve and implement
practical solutions to problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Foresee and initiate
proactive measures to ensure program quality, customer service and facility
integrity. 
  
Certifications,
Licenses, and Registrations:  

-Background check required.
-Favorable state and federal fingerprinting, and child abuse reporting background checks.
-CPR and First Aid Certification must be acquired within one month of hire
-Must complete State-approved courses before working in licensed camp programs 

Physical demands: Work will include the following: 1) regular standing and walking; 2) bending, stooping, pushing,
pulling, jumping, twisting, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and
reaching; physical activity required in recreation activities; 3) frequent
lifting and carrying 15 to 50 pounds; 4) hand/eye coordination for operation of a computer keyboard; 5) foot-eye coordination for the
operation of a motor vehicle; 6) vision to read written materials and
understand direction; 7) speech and hearing capabilities to maintain communication
with citizens and employees.  

Work environment: While performing
the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to blood borne pathogens and uncontrollable physical behaviors such as kicking or biting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually
moderate.

Performance Steps 
Performance Step 1   
-Performs as required by job description with direct supervision.
-Has experience working with individuals with disabilities, or an interest/willingness to learn and receive training on disability-inclusive practices.

Performance Step 2  
-Performs all duties outlined in Step 1.
-Communicates with Inclusion Coordinator regarding outcomes of inclusion intervention.
-Completes a minimum of 300 contact hours.
-Favorable review by Inclusion Coordinator.

Performance Step 3  
-Performs all duties outlined in previous steps.
-Favorable review by Inclusion Coordinator.
-Has a minimum of 3 months (455 hours) satisfactory and verifiable experience working in licensed childcare programs.
-Able to step into Lead Inclusion Aide duties and responsibilities.

Performance Step 4 
-Performs all duties outlined in previous steps.
-Favorable review by Inclusion Coordinator.
-Meets at least 2 of the following qualifications:
-CTRS, Behavior Specialist or comparable certification will start at this level.
-Have a bachelor’s degree in a related field
-Supports the Inclusion Coordinator, other inclusion aides, and provides facilitation strategy ideas.
-Accumulates a minimum of 600 contact hours.
-Consistently maintains a high level of support and documentation.
