Position Summary:

The General Service Technician is responsible for installing flatbeds, utility bodies, and a wide range of after-market parts and accessories on light-duty and heavy-duty trucks. This includes functional upgrades (e.g., bumpers, lighting, toolboxes, air-bag kits). The technician ensures all installations are completed safely, accurately, and in line with manufacturer specifications and customer expectations.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install flatbeds, aftermarket truck parts and accessories including bumpers, hitches, tonneau covers, toolboxes, lighting systems, Air bags, side steps, winches, racks, and more.
  • Read and follow installation instructions, work orders, and technical diagrams.
  • Use hand and power tools to perform drilling, cutting, bolting, wiring, and assembly as required.
  • Perform basic wiring for lighting, trailer connectors, power accessories, etc.
  • Inspect vehicles before and after installation to ensure proper fitment and functionality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and handle all tools and equipment safely.
  • Communicate with supervisors as needed for clarification or adjustments.
  • Document completed work and report any issues or delays to supervisors.
  • Perform quality control checks and rework as necessary to meet standards.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 2–5 years of installation and light automotive electrical experience
  • Experience using hand and power tools such as drills, saws, wrenches, and impact guns.
  • Ability to follow written instructions, technical manuals, and diagrams accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and perform installations in various positions (standing, kneeling, overhead work).
  • Proficient in installing most after-market parts and accessories (bumpers, lighting, racks, flatbeds)
  • Capable of reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and performing custom 12V wiring
  • Performs electrical hookups (lights, brake controllers, harnesses) and tests for function
  • Works independently on standard builds and assists with complex or custom installs.
  • May perform PTO install/wiring, switches, and relays.
  • Maintains build quality, stays on schedule, and contributes to workflow improvements
  • May provide guidance to entry-level technicians

 


Essential Physical and Environmental Functions

Physical Demands:

  • Standing: 80% | Walking: 70% | Sitting: 5%
  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and walking on uneven surfaces
  • Frequent lifting/carrying: up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting over 100 lbs
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for grasping and dexterity
  • Constant visual, auditory, and verbal communication required

Work Environment:

  • Frequent exposure to noise, dirt, dust, mechanical vibration, fumes, and outdoor conditions
  • Occasional work in extreme heat/cold or wet/humid environments
  • Occasional shift work and extended days may be required
  • Occasional hazards due to mechanical equipment or moving objects

Equipment Operated:

  • Company vehicles, customer vehicles, and forklifts
  • Welders, compressors, air tools, hand tools, bandsaw, plasma cutter, 4 post lift.
  • Company-provided computers for clocking in and out or requesting time off.
  • Required to use protective gear (PPE) at all times
