JOB TITLE: Environmental Compliance Manager

LOCATION: Corporate Office (Edmonds, WA) with 25% Travel Time to Alaska Plants

SALARY: $100,000 - $135,000

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Environmental Compliance (EC) Manager is responsible for corporate oversight of environmental compliance across all locations. Works with plant personnel to develop, implement, and maintain written programs, inspection forms and guidelines, training curricula, policies and practices to ensure compliance with all EC regulatory requirements (such as EPA, ADEC, etc.). Apprises leaders of changes to all regulations and practical approaches that ensure compliance. Provides training and guidance to all levels of the organization in areas of responsibility. Completes and submits required permits and reports. Visits production facilities to audit programs and records, train staff and conduct physical inspections of the site. Maintains organized paper and electronic files of pertinent records. This is an exempt position (not paid overtime) and reports to the Vice President, HR & Administration.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Oversees all environmental compliance programs throughout the organization.
  • Develops, implements and updates written programs, inspection guidelines, forms, training materials, policies, and practices to ensure all locations meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Stays up to date on regulatory changes and initiatives and apprises managers and leaders of pertinent issues.
  • Creates practical, proactive solutions for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conducts site specific training in areas of environmental compliance.
  • Monitors plant records for completion and accuracy.
  • Audits each facility at least annually. Identifies deficiencies and areas for improvement, ranks in order of risk, sets deadlines, and follows through to verify abatement.
  • Acts as an in-house resource on technical issues within areas of responsibility.
  • Responds to agency requests and notices.
  • Represents the company at industry meetings.
  • Develops systematic paper and electronic records retention program.
  • Works to continuously improve processes and documentation.
  • Develops long-term professional working relationships with employees, stakeholders, and auditors.
  • Represents the company professionally and appropriately in interactions with others.
  • Maintains accurate, compliant, and organized paper and electronic business records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor�s degree in environmental science.
  • Five or more years of similar EC work experience, preferably in the Alaska seafood industry.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations that apply to seafood production in Alaska such as air, wastewater, storm water, solid and hazardous waste regulations, and use of ammonia refrigerants. These include, but are not limited to, regulations promulgated by EPA and ADEC.
  • Ability to research, read, comprehend, and articulate in layman�s terms the meaning of regulations.
  • Experience developing and delivering training to adult learners.
  • Influential, collaborative, professional demeanor. Effective oral and written communications.
  • Advanced technical writing skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to remote areas of Alaska and work in seafood processing plants for extended periods of time. This includes traveling and working in inclement weather and in seafood production plants (inherent hazards include moving machinery, wet floors, noise, forklift traffic, etc.).
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
