Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team at Lockwood Elementary as a Teacher for Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE). This full-time position is designed for an individual who is committed to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for young children with diverse needs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of early childhood development and special education practices, and will work collaboratively with families, staff, and the community to support the growth and development of each child.

POSITION: Special Education Teacher – Early Childhood
BUILDING: Lockwood Elementary
DATE OF AVAILABILITY: August 2026
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must possess, or be willing to obtain, a ZS endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education.
2. Prior teaching experience at the elementary level preferred.
3. Knowledge of and commitment to best practices as supported by current research to teach the
District’s adopted curriculum; willingness to attend workshops to strengthen skills
4. Experience and expertise with guided reading instruction, process writing and reading comprehension
strategies, knowing how to monitor student progress within a balanced literacy approach to teaching
5. Must support inclusionary classroom practices, willingly participating in co-teaching with
professional staff and paraprofessional aides
6. Support MTTS process within the building
7. Must support and participate in the schools’ efforts to create a positive school climate and promote
appropriate student behavior
8. Must be knowledgeable of and able to demonstrate effective classroom strategies and management
techniques for the early childhood as well as special education population. START training preferred
9. Experience with and ability to implement assessments and IEP/MET student data to drive meaningful
instruction.
10. Must demonstrate competency in communications with parents and colleagues. Willingness to
maintain/facilitate frequent conversations/communication with parents and colleagues outside of
designated conferences.
11. Must be able to adapt to a variety of educational delivery models and be skilled in accommodating
learning differences.
12. Committed to working in a high profile school and being a part of a professional learning community,
including the MiBLSI project
13. Keep informed of and comply with school, district, state, and federal requirements and policies for
teachers of special education.
14. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
15. Ability to assist students in problem solving activities regarding behaviors and academics through
knowledge of varied intervention theories and actions.
16. Knowledge and/or experience writing Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Plans desired
