Job Purpose:
The CAD Technician I supports Infrastructure Engineering projects by producing accurate, high quality CAD drawings, details, and exhibits for Communication Outside Plant (OSP) and related civil infrastructure projects. This role converts field data, sketches, redlines, and design concepts into coordinated construction documents that comply with company, client, and agency standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain CAD drawings, base maps, plan sheets, details, and exhibits using AutoCAD in accordance with established CAD and design standards.
- Develop drawings depicting existing conditions (topography, utilities, right of way, easements, site/floor plans) and proposed OSP and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Convert field notes, sketches, redlines, permits, and verbal or written direction into clean, accurate, and coordinated CAD deliverables.
- Collect, review, and organize records from city, county, state, and utility agencies, including tax maps, surveys, utility maps, and construction drawings.
- Perform self checks and participate in peer Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with standards.
- Maintain and update existing design files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other technicians to meet scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
- May conduct periodic field visits or site walks to verify existing conditions and support design development.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic CAD related technical issues and support continuous improvement of drafting processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Associate degree in ComputerAided Design (CAD), Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience working as a CAD Technician, preferably within the telecommunications industry.
- Proven experience in creating detailed technical drawings and plans using CAD software.
- Familiarity with telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optics, cable layouts, and network schematics, is highly desirable.
- Experience in collaborating with engineers and project managers to interpret design specifications and translate them into technical drawings.
