Assistant Council on Aging Director

The Town of Westwood is seeking an enthusiastic and flexible Assistant Council on Aging Director to play a central role in supporting the Director in the administration and daily operations of the Council on Aging (COA). Westwood is a vibrant community with approximately 16,000 residents, 25% over the age of 60. On a daily basis, the Senior Center is a hive of activity that logs 3,000+ visits per month in supporting the diverse needs of a growing senior population.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-past environment, possess strong management skills, exhibit sound judgment under stressful situations, and effectively juggle multiple priorities. Sensitivity, empathy, understanding and respect are essential to the position, along with a solid awareness of the needs of older adults and the resources available to keep them safe, secure and engaged.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversees a range of programs and activities including off-site adventures and in-house programming. Evaluates programs in support of continuous improvement.
  • Manages the COA transportation program, including scheduling, service levels, daily operations, and vehicle maintenance; assists in recruiting and supervising van drivers.
  • Oversees the daily operations, scheduling, and functionality of the Senior Center, serves as the key contact for evening and weekend activities; coordinates building maintenance, repairs and custodial services.
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety requirements, including serving as the facility�s ServSafe Manager.
  • Serves as liaison to Town departments and community partners, including the Westwood Food Pantry and Greater Boston Food Bank.
  • Develops and manages COA communications, including social media, website content, and marketing materials.
  • Assists the Director with budget development and long-term planning; tracks expenses, revenues, and grant funding.
  • Responds to resident inquiries, concerns, and service needs with professionalism and sound judgment; provides responsive, high-quality customer service.
  • Responds to and assists with complex situations involving older adults, including medical, behavioral health, and social service needs; serves as a mandated reporter and coordinates with appropriate agencies to support client safety and well-being.
  • Maintains confidentiality and ensures proper handling of sensitive personal, medical, and financial information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Supervises staff in the day-to-day operation of the department.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Associate Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Gerontology or related field; Bachelor Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in aging services, human services, or a related field.
  • Municipal experience preferred.
  • Certifications in First Aid, CPR, and ServSafe (or ability to obtain)
  • U.S. Driver�s License
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary range of $81,530 � $104,077, depending on qualifications.
