Description
The Production Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and restoration activities on plant equipment within a combined cycle power generation facility. This role supports safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations by maintaining mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, and by providing operational support as needed.
The Linden Generating Station is a 1,300 MW dual fuel combined cycle plant located in Linden, New Jersey. This facility features GE 7FA gas turbines, D-11 steam turbines, and associated systems that deliver reliable power to the PJM grid.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance on plant mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment
- Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment including:
- Pumps, fans, motors, gearboxes, turbines
- Transformers, relays, switches, transmitters, actuators, valve positioners
- DCS/PLC systems, plant controls, chemistry analyzers, and CEMS equipment
- Develop, diagnose, test, tune, and modify DCS logic as directed by plant leadership
- Support plant operations by performing outside plant rounds, surveillance, and responding to control room requests
- Read and interpret meters, gauges, alarms, and instrumentation to verify operating conditions
- Perform water chemistry analysis and adjust chemical feed rates within required specifications
- Execute equipment isolation, tagging, and clearance procedures in compliance with safety protocols
- Coordinate required parts and materials, including inventory control and staging for maintenance tasks
- Oversee the work of assigned maintenance personnel or contractors when required
- Operate overhead cranes, rigging equipment, chain hoists, and related lifting devices
- Install and remove equipment using appropriate rigging practices
- Maintain accurate work documentation, including work orders, reports, and maintenance logs
- Maintain shop tools, test equipment, and assigned work areas in a clean and safe condition
- Receive, store, and issue plant inventory, bulk chemicals, and oil deliveries as required
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Communicate equipment condition, job progress, and abnormal situations to plant supervision
- Conduct pre-job and post-job briefs and safety toolbox discussions
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation maintenance in an industrial or power generation environment
- Ability to acquire thorough knowledge of:
- Power plant equipment, systems, and layouts
- Mechanical and electrical principles related to generation facilities
- Plant drawings, procedures, and maintenance tools
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and complete assignments safely and accurately
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain required certifications or licenses (training provided by the company)
Preferred:
- Experience working with combined cycle power plants
- Experience with DCS/PLC systems and control logic troubleshooting
- Familiarity with rigging, overhead cranes, and lifting operations
- Knowledge of safety and environmental compliance in industrial settings
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to heat, noise, and elevated work areas
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools and equipment as required
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform physical tasks associated with maintenance activities
Summary
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
