Check-Mate Manufacturing has openings for Tool and Die Makers.  Tool and Die Maker builds, repairs, and maintains: dies, fixtures, and all other tooling in conformance to customer and/or company specifications per control plans.  Tool and Die Makers must be able to read tool & Die designs, prints and know basic show math and trigonometry.

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Responsible for the development, maintenance and/or repair of stamping dies (both progressive & secondary dies) in accordance with Engineering supplied blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Supports production department with tooling needs; respond to shop-floor calls in a timely manner
  • Assures safe operation and care of tool room equipment
  • Produces quality work in a timely manner
  • Assesses complex tooling and equipment needs and refurbish as required
  • Troubleshoots and solves tooling problems without assistance
  • Set-up and operates all tool room equipment.
  • Works to continuously improve tooling and reduce scrap.
  • Housekeeping and other activities as assigned
  • Ability to lead continuous improvement and emergency repair projects individually or within a team.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Journeyman Tool & Die Maker and/ or completion of an apprenticeship (4 years) or advanced manufacturing certificate, followed by at least 4 years of on the job training
  • 5 years’ experience in the trade; emphasis on small precision stampings from progressive dies
  • Knowledge/ experience with of AutoCAD, Solid-works, and EDM (a Plus)
  • Ability to use precise measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gage blocks, dial indicators, etc.
  • Ability to operate all standard tool room equipment such as milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, lathes, etc. CNC machine set up a plus.
