About our Department:

The Sanitation Division is charged with the responsibility of providing garbage collection to residential and commercial solid waste customers. It is also responsible for the collection of trash and yard waste as well as bulky waste for Huntsville’s residential solid waste customers.

Sanitation Truck Driver Position Overview: 

This is skilled work in operating a refuse truck with a mechanized packer on an assigned route. Work involves responsibility for the operation and care of a refuse collection truck equipped with a hydraulic packer and dump and overseeing a crew of two sanitation workers. Work requires that the employee follow an established route and maintain a collection schedule.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and experience in driving a heavy-duty truck; or any combination of education, training and experience.

Valid Commercial Driver's License, Class B.
