About the Department
Performs a variety of tasks related to advising students regarding career direction and program/ course selection. Conducts orientation and serves as the instructor of record during the intake testing class, prepares academic and career plans, identifies and resolves student barriers, maintains student records, monitors student progress.
Position Duties
1. Provides academic and career counseling to new and prospective students; explains policies, procedures, and program requirements; and assists students in selecting educational and career goals.
2. Advises and counsels students in developing career and academic plans and planning and selecting courses and activities that meet educational and career goals.
3. Monitors student attendance and performance and provides interventions as needed.
4. Reviews, interprets, and evaluates applicant assessment results and other information to determine appropriate placement. May administer standardized testing, as needed.
5. Leverages available technology to maintain data bases and document student records.
6. Assists in coordinating visits of prospective students to college; answers questions and provides information regarding admission requirements to prospective students.

9. Develops fliers, program-specific newsletter and other visual aids that are designed to keep students informed and help them navigate through the college system.
10. Communicates important and timely information to students via email, phone, and face-to-face meetings; responds to students requests in a timely manner.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and one year of academic advising experience

Excellent presentation skills

Experience in planning and delivering orientations and workshops
Serves as instructor of record during the intake testing class. (Please note: the instructor of record is responsible for orientation and a myriad of administrative tasks; the instructor of record is not responsible for academic/content instruction.)
