    Position Summary

    The Director of Facilities Operations supports the district's mission to inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams, contribute to their community, and engage in a lifetime of learning by directing resources and overseeing all aspects of Facilities Operations, including Custodial Services, Buildings & Grounds/Maintenance, and Health and Safety. Oversees department budgets, activities, operational policies, objectives, and initiatives. Leads and develops staff, establishing systems to measure and monitor workflow efficiency and operational effectiveness. Collaborates with other department and building leaders to assess operational needs and ensure alignment with district priorities. Plans and implements strategic solutions for technical, data, and financial management, leveraging new and existing systems to improve outcomes. Ensures attainment of short- and long-term financial and operational goals in alignment with the district's strategic plan.

     



    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

     

    Facilities and Construction: Oversees long-range facilities planning, construction, and maintenance. (25%)

    • Develops, implements, and ensures accountability for the district's long-term facilities and deferred maintenance plan.
    • Leads resource allocation and priority setting for facility-related budgets in alignment with the Long Range Financial Planning process.
    • Serves as district representative for all construction projects.
    • Develops, implements, and ensures accountability for the district's long-term facilities and deferred maintenance plan.

    • Develops the Long-Term Facilities Maintenance (LTFM) 10-year plan and ensures compliance with reporting requirements to the School Board and state authorities.
    • Directs collaborative facilities assessments and proposes recommendations for capital facilities improvements and referendum project design development.
    • Designs project development strategies and oversees project design processes.
    • Selects and evaluates professional design partners and owners' representatives.
    • Directs the activities of the Facilities Development Steering Committee.
    • Oversees project implementation, ensuring quality, safety, and alignment with district goals.
       

    Strategic Leadership: Provides strategic leadership to the district in a systemic and integrated manner. (20%)

    • Develops and maintains integrated processes and solutions in collaboration with the Executive Director of Finance and Operations and department leaders.
    • Recommends, revises, and interprets school board policy and administrative procedures related to assigned areas.
    • Represents the district positively at district and community events, in professional organizations, and with stakeholders and vendors while demonstrating professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Assumes decision-making responsibility and applies effective problem-solving processes.
    • Fosters open communication, maintains accessibility and visibility, and invites suggestions and feedback.
    • Addresses needs and concerns of others, provides appropriate support, and resolves conflicts.
    • Demonstrates cultural responsiveness and leads departmental work for racial equity, including equitable resource distribution.
    • Engages in professional growth and learning through local and national associations.
    • Builds trust by demonstrating competence, reliability, sincerity, and caring; adapts and remains flexible.
    • Ensures continuous improvement by implementing and monitoring departmental improvement plans.
    • Attends School Board and Cabinet/Superintendent meetings as required.

       

    Departmental Leadership: Coordinates integration and administration of departmental operations. (15%)

    • Builds a high-performing work team in collaboration with the Executive Director of Finance and Operations.
    • Identifies and develops functional improvements in operational services.
    • Coordinates planning and execution of system workflows.
    • Develops, evaluates, and implements improved processes, workflows, and tools.
    • Ensures optimal communication, system integration, and workflow efficiency across Facilities and Transportation Operations.
    • Coaches and mentors operations management staff.
    • Directs development of departmental continuous improvement objectives aligned with the strategic plan.
    • Ensures compliance with departmental procedures and practices.
    • Oversees departmental budgets and financial planning.
    • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
    • Supports site operations through communication, collaboration, and customer service.
       

    Custodial and Maintenance Operations: Ensures safe and healthy environments by directing Custodial Services and Buildings & Grounds/Maintenance. (15%)

    • Oversees efficient operation, upkeep, and maintenance of school buildings, grounds, and equipment.
    • Implements strategies for high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective facility operations.
    • Ensures facilities and grounds are attractive, well-maintained, and safe.
       

    Department Staff Supervision: Recruits, develops, and evaluates departmental staff. (15%)

    • Screens, recruits, and selects staff.
    • Manages employee performance and administers discipline as appropriate.
    • Provides training for new hires, continuing employees, and vendor teams.
    • Supervises direct reports, offering coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.
       

    Health and Safety: Directs the district's health and safety program to promote safety and compliance. (10%)

    • Develops and implements district health and safety programs.
    • Maintains partnerships to enhance health and safety strategies, ensuring compliance with laws, policies, and procedures.
    • Assesses, identifies, and investigates risks and hazards.
       

    Other Duties

    • Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned by the Executive Director of Finance and Operations.

       



    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent years of experience) in Business Administration, Management, Occupational Health/Safety, Engineering/Construction, Transportation, or a related field.
    • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of relevant work experience.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in a K-12 school district environment.


    Hiring range: Pay Grade 122, $152,633 to $177,817 annually
    Job type: Full-time, 260/261 workdays per year
    Bargaining unit: Directors and Confidential Managers
    Desired start date: July 1, 2026

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work involves frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and the use of hands to operate a computer and standard office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required when inspecting or observing equipment, facilities, and personnel. Visual acuity is necessary for reading and preparing documents, viewing a computer screen, and conducting inspections with accuracy.

    Work is primarily performed in a standard office setting within a school or district administrative environment, with periodic visits to school buildings, grounds, and facilities. The position may involve occasional exposure to dust, noise, cleaning chemicals, or other environmental conditions when conducting inspections or overseeing maintenance and custodial operations. Tasks are generally performed in a climate-controlled environment with access to necessary technology and resources. The work is deadline-driven and may involve multiple priorities, emergency responses, and frequent interactions with staff, contractors, and community members.
