Spec. Ed. Paraprofessional


Position Title: Special Education Paraprofessional


 


Starting Pay:  $15.50



Immediate Supervisor: Special Education Teacher, Building Administrator, District Support Team



Position Summary:



  • Monitor students during arrival, lunch, recess and dismissal times

  • Assist in classroom instruction under the direction of the general education and special education teacher

  • Implement Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) as written in the IEP

  • Assist students in following classroom schedule

  • Record and summarize data as directed by the special education teacher

  • Maintain daily communication with special education teacher

  • Assist in the modification/accommodation of classroom work according to the individual student’s IEP

  • Assist the special education teacher in providing appropriate individualized services to assist students in their inclusionary services

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information

  • Follow all employee practices listed in the Paraprofessional Employees Agreement


Qualifications:



  • Pass Para-Pro examination or have 60 hours of college credit

  • High school diploma

  • Previous experience with children or students with special needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and understand individual students’ needs

  • Ability to accurately record and summarize data as directed by the special education teacher

  • Willingness to participate in pre and ongoing training programs

  • Understand the individual needs of students as described in their IEP

  • Ability to lift student if necessary (all students over 40 pounds are a 2-person lift).


Duties:



  • Support the needs of special education students or other special education staff in the building as directed

  • Assist substitute teachers and paraprofessionals in adapting to needs of students and daily schedule of activities

  • Assist students as needed to achieve individual goals and objectives for their IEPs

  • Implement behavior and support plans as described in the students’ IEPs

  • Assist in classroom instruction under the direction of general and special education teachers

  • Assist with toileting and/or diapering as needed.

  • Assist with feeding as needed.


Works in standard office and school building environments. Must be able to work regularly scheduled hours. Must be able to handle stress.
