Sustainability & Carbon Reduction Strategies Intern (Association Office)
Full-Time / Seasonal
$20.00 Hourly

The YMCA of
Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve
health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse
population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive
through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone
of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger
communities.

To help
fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and
collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and
“LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal
Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust,
inclusion, growth, and development for all.

The YMCA of Greater New York Association Office is seeking an Intern for their Properties Department. Under the supervision of the Senior
Vice President of Real Estate and Property Management and the VP of Property
Management, the Sustainability & Carbon Reduction Intern will play a critical role in the organization-wide
implementation of a strategy to reduce fossil fuel consumption and minimize the
impact of NYC Local Law 97 (the Carbon Tax law), as well as provide logistical
and administrative support on several priority initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Help develop a forward-looking plan to reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon tax impacts at each YMCA branch.

  • Work closely with Y staff and the Y’s energy consultant, Environ, to refine projections of Carbon Tax Impacts for each branch.
  • Work with Y staff and Environ to identify projects at each branch that can reduce fossil fuel consumption.
  • Work with Y staff and Environ to review payback analysis and draft a proposed schedule of priority capital projects for the Y to consider implementing over the next decade.

Work with Y Property Management Leadership to leverage real-time energy meter data into energy reduction strategies.

  • Provide assistance in the implementation of a new real-time energy meter system.
  • Once meters are installed and functional, monitor energy consumption trends and work with the VP of Properties and branch property managers to develop equipment scheduling recommendations.
  • Monitor the impact of equipment scheduling measures.
  • Work with Y staff and Environ to develop energy-related performance benchmarks for branches.

Provide administrative support to Department.

  • When needed, assist in preparing bid documents for capital projects, tracking and receiving vendor invoices, and following up on the vendor qualification process.
  • Provide some support in scheduling key meetings and events.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High
    School Diploma required.
  • Current
college student or recent graduate with relevant sustainability and
    environmental sciences coursework.
  • Strong interpersonal
skills, leadership qualities, and comfortable working with both internal
    and external contacts.

our dynamic team, please complete our online application and submit your résumé and a
