Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) provides client-centered assessment, counseling, and case management services for individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). This role supports clients through telehealth by delivering evidence-based interventions, coordinating care, and promoting long-term recovery in alignment with Hawaiʻi state CSAC standards and UHP policies.

Location: 100% Remote 

This is a full-time or part-time position working Monday to Sunday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM based on client and program needs. Ideally, the position would work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Salary is for a full-time position.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or related field.
  • Current Hawaiʻi CSAC, CADC, LADC, SAP, or equivalent certification.

Experience

  • Experience in substance use treatment, behavioral health, or related human services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of SUD treatment principles, recovery models, and community resources in Hawaiʻi.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), telehealth platforms, and digital communication tools.
  • Excellent communication, motivational interviewing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and commitment to equitable, patient-centered care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team in a remote environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage a diverse caseload.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and confidentiality standards.
