Counselor – Behavioral Health MS (Licensed)
Location: Virtual
Schedule: Weekend Option
Friday and Saturday: 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Additional: One 4-hour shift per week
Position Overview:
The Behavioral Health Counselor conducts crisis assessments in emergency and ambulatory settings. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient evaluations, crisis intervention, and providing disposition recommendations. The counselor collaborates with healthcare team members to ensure timely, safe, and effective care, while connecting patients and families to appropriate resources and support.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage patients in treatment and education within a supportive environment
Collaborate with healthcare team members to facilitate care
Interpret and communicate patient and family needs, modeling caring practices
Assess psychosocial risk factors, support systems, and coping abilities
Counsel patients and families on emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness
Mobilize family and community resources as needed
Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral
Serve as liaison for cases involving child abuse, elder abuse, domestic violence, and protective services
Provide intervention in guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements
Apply crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
Qualifications & Requirements:
· Education: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related mental health field required
· Experience: 3-5 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community-based experience preferred
· Licensure: Current Indiana license as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, or HSPP required
Knowledge & Skills:
Psychosocial assessments, therapeutic counseling, crisis intervention
Knowledge of disease processes and social needs
Evidence-based practices (CBT, MI, DBT)
Legal mandates for protective services
End-of-life and developmental principles
EMR and MS Office proficiency
Building relationships with community agencies and organizations
