Description

FONDREN CONSTRUCTION is looking to hire a Heavy Equipment Operator in the Jackson, MS area.


Under general supervision, operates various equipment including graders, tractors, backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, and trash trucks. May also include forklifts and front skid steer loaders.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. May lead, guide, and train employees, performing related work
  2. Performs routine inspection and maintenance on equipment such as checking oil, water, and filters.
  3. Operates Dozers for leveling and operates Excavators to load materials such as dirt and rocks.
  4. Operates backhoe and front-end loaders as required.
  5. Operates forklifts and dump trucks to transport trash and material.
  6. Operates various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, and related assignments.
  7. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

 

 

Requirements

 

  • Minimum Requirements
    • High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of applicable experience.
    • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug and alcohol testing.
    • Must have a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL).

 

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
      • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
      • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
      • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
      • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance such as checking oil, water levels and air filters.
      • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
