UTMC, a family-owned 112-year-old company, is the long-term industry leader in refrigerated semi-trailers and North America’s fourth largest semi-trailer manufacturer. UTMC has six manufacturing factories – five in various states within the United States and one in Mexico -- and a research and development facility in California.
The temporary summer role is designed for undergraduate students about to begin their Junior or Senior year to take on a 10–12-week position where they will work closely with the team, apply their knowledge and enhance their skills in a variety of CAD Design areas using SolidWorks.
This is an onsite position held at our corporate office located in City of Industry, California.
Position Summary:
- Design: Create detailed 3D parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks.
- Develop: Help develop trailer assemblies and key sub‑assemblies (including structural, sheet‑metal, and welded components).
- Configure and Modify: Configure and modify production designs using our established options and design standards.
- Specify Materials and Components: Work with materials including various types of steel, aluminum, wood, plastic, urethane foams, fasteners, and components.
- Collaborate: Work with our production team in the design and processing of orders.
Requirements:
- Student currently in an engineering or technology program (associate or bachelor’s). Other majors or recent graduates may also be considered.
- Working knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and good math skills.
- Attention to detail and a positive, collaborative attitude.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Regularly exercises discretion and the ability to prioritize workload.

Compensation:
Salary Range: $22-$23 an hour
Non-exempt Position- Part-time -25- 30 hours per week (June 2026 to August 31, 2026)
Not eligible for health benefits. Will accrued vacation, holiday pay and sick leave.
