Phoenix Houses NY|LI has an immediate opening for a Training/Vocational Specialist at our Brooklyn Community Recovery Center located in Brooklyn. The Training/Vocational Specialist will be responsible for coordinating the execution of our grant-funded Peer Coach Training sessions, coordinating trainees practical experience, and supporting trainees’ acquisition of state certifications/licenses. The Training/Vocational Specialist will conduct internships and job development activities, including resume writing and soft skill development, to support the practical experience and ultimate employment of the Peer Coach Trainees. This position is a full-time grant funded position and the schedule is flexible.
Responsibilities:
- Perform intake of all patients to obtain vocation and educational background information to identify preliminary needs and develop an initial plan of services to meet those needs.
- Conduct a comprehensive vocational/educational assessment including patient history, test administration and the evaluation of the patients’ capacity to function.
- Prepare a Vocational Rehabilitation Plan with short and long-range goals and methodology to achieve goals.
- Maintain a list of patients with updated status regarding involvement in training and internship activities.
- Provide on-going individual and group counseling of all patients to establish vocational decisions and assist in achieving goals.
- Provide instruction in one or more of the courses in the Pre-Employment (with an emphasis on Life Skills Training, Job Readiness, Job Retention curricula).
- Ensure coordination and integration of vocational services into the treatment process.
- Maintain concise and accurate records of each patient’s vocational status and progress, updating them daily.
- Submit activity logs to daily and document interactions with patients and others daily.
- Monitor patients’ progress before, during and after employment within the guidelines of ACCESS VR
Experience:
- Two years of experience in the vocational rehabilitation counseling of persons
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience working with substance use treatment, recovery, and related at-risk populations
Education/Certification:
- B.A. in counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field
- M.A. in Vocational Rehabilitation or Guidance Counseling or Rehabilitation Counselor Certification preferred
