Aztalan Bio is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Accounting Manager to lead financial operations and support our growing organization. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective coordination between the accounting team, leadership, and cross-functional departments. The position combines financial oversight, team leadership, reporting, and process improvement to support timely close cycles and reliable financial data.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys leading and developing a team, and has strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. This role works closely with the Controller to provide insights that support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Compiles and analyzes financial information in order to prepare journal entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and documenting business transactions.

2. Set up new accounts when needed.

3. Processes month-end reports for management review.

4. Coordinates the completion of the balance sheet account analysis.

5. Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and equity, and reviews and verifies balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.

6. Prepares, verifies, and controls the entering of journal entries to the general ledger.

7. Evaluates subsidiary journals for obvious errors and omissions and enters corrected data into the general ledger.

8. Performs all tasks associated with the general ledger, i.e. enters monthly journal entries, executes monthly closing entries and month-end general ledger.

9. Performs monthly closing of unbilled revenue, billing summary, and overall analysis.

10. Assists with the timely processing of financial statements.

11. Reconciles bank accounts and other company financial accounts; investigates discrepancies in accounts and makes corrections as needed.

12. Monitors fixed asset accounts including construction in progress.

13. Maintains fixed asset program for calculation of monthly depreciation expense. 

14. Facilitate processing of checks and electronic payments (ACH’s and wire transfers).

15. Reviews transactions in various accounts.

16. Checks account numbers on invoices and the accuracy of final payments.

17. Performs year-end close out of accounts and assists in preparing year-end tax returns and annual financial standard audit by outside accountants. 



Requirements

  Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a related field. 

· 3-5 years of progressive accounting and reporting experience. Experience with full-cycle accounting. 

· Strong understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting. 

· Hedge accounting and IFRS experience a plus.

· Experience within a high-volume complex manufacturing environment. 

· Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Software a plus

· Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting techniques.

· Advanced skills in spreadsheet and financial software (e.g., Excel, ERP systems).

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and geographies. 

· Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

· Familiarity with relevant financial regulations and accounting standards.


Work Environment & Physical Demands 

· Primary work environment is an office setting, however, occasionally will enter the plant environment

· When in the plant environment, employee may be exposed to moderate to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, and/or to chemicals used in the process 

· Personal Protective Equipment may be required when working in the plant environment such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, flame-resistant clothing, and hearing protection.

· Regularly required to walk, sit, talk, and hear. 

· Mostly sedentary, with some light lifting of files, supplies, or equipment.
