Job Description


Job Overview:

We are looking for caring and committed individuals to join our Friends & Family Program as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)—also known as Bring Your Own Caregivers (BYOCs).


This special program allows friends and family members to work together in providing meaningful support to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). As a DSP, you will play a key role in fostering independence, encouraging community involvement, and supporting the overall health, safety, and well-being of the individuals in your care.


Responsibilities


1. Personalized Care
- Provide direct care and support to individuals with IDD based on their unique needs and preferences.
- Assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.


2. Community Inclusion
- Plan and engage individuals in social and recreational activities within the community.
- Encourage participation in local events, clubs, and other community-based initiatives.


3. Communication
- Maintain open and effective communication with individuals, their families, and other support team members.
- Collaborate with friends and family members to create a supportive and cohesive caregiving environment.


4. Training and Development
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills related to supporting individuals with IDD.
- Stay informed about best practices in the field of developmental disabilities.


5. Documentation
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of daily activities, goals, progress, and any incidents.
- Share relevant information with the support team to ensure continuity of care.


6. Problem-Solving
- Address challenges and problem-solve with a positive and proactive approach.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in related fields is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively  as part of a cohesive support team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals with IDD.

- Ability to pass a Background Check (Administered by ORCHARDS/Background Check Unit of the State of Oregon)
