Description

Are you a high school student interested in exploring careers in public service while gaining hands on experience in state government?
Internships provide students an opportunity to network, make valuable work connections, and develop workplace skills in a variety of professional areas, all while receiving compensation.

We are seeking motivated high school students interested in public service and the opportunity to gain meaningful employment in state government.

Benefits:

  • Allows students direct participation within the executive branch of state government.
  • Provides students with opportunities to interact and work with professionals in specific career fields.
  • Allows students professional connection opportunities
with state government employees, mentors, and other interns, which is a great
way to build and expand professional networks.

To be considered for a position in the Co/Op Internship Program, candidates must:

  • Be enrolled on a full-time basis in high school as a junior or senior.
  • Be in good standing with the school with at least a 2.5 grade point average at time of hire.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Be dependable: Ensure that you follow your designated work schedule and meet deadlines. Communicate with your supervisor ahead of time if you are unable to follow your work schedule or if you need further support to meet a deadline.
  • Take initiative: Look for ways to meet and exceed the expectations set for your daily work. This shows your co-workers and supervisor that you are a self-motivated problem solver.
  • Strive to learn: Seek out new opportunities to learn about your state agency and state government.
  • Ask for feedback on your performance - this will show you are receptive and searching for opportunities to grow. Ask questions if you are unsure how to complete an assigned task.

If Interested:

  • Apply to this ad and complete the application.
  • Your information will be shared with state agencies that have internship openings.

This is an Interim position. An Interim position is established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.

Important Note: Submission does not guarantee placement – internship availability depends on agency needs.
