Viewpoint School is currently seeking a Facilities Technician - HVAC . The Facilities Technician - HVAC performs duties necessary to operate and maintain the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and electrical systems in order to provide a comfortable environment in classrooms, laboratories and offices on campus; following recognized procedures and techniques for such work.
Primary Functions:
- Maintains heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and electrical systems on campus
- Preventive maintenance, cleaning, adjustment, repair and replacement of heating and cooling systems
- Help in maintaining equipment records for scheduling of maintenance, ordering of repair parts and optimal utilization of resources
- Monitors systems performance with continuous attention to malfunctions and repair needs
- Provide maintenance support in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other areas as needed
- Assists Maintenance Manager in preparing annual budget for maintenance or replacement of equipment and supplies
- Installs, inspects, operates and repairs heating, ventilating and cooling equipment using necessary hand tools and testing equipment
- Inspects and operates air conditioning units and machinery to determine that all are functioning properly
- Ensure all work performed is in compliance with all regulatory agencies
- Tests efficiency of system with instruments and makes adjustment to thermostatic controls and blowers
- Lubricates compressors, motors and other moving parts
- Tests systems before placing them in operation
- Tests joints and connections according to type of refrigerant used
- Repairs leaks and retests
- Drains system by means of vacuum pump
- Operates system for several hours, making adjustments to thermostats and valves to insure system is working properly
- Is On-call to handle after-hours HVAC issues and emergencies
- May have minor supervisory duties when helper is assigned to assist in the work of the mechanic
- Assist in setups and breakdown of events
- Other maintenance repair work as needed
- Maintain equipment and tools in the Facilities Department
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a HVAC maintenance
- Universal EPA recovery certification
- Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning machinery and components
- Courteous manner in dealing with public. Maintain a professional distance between students and families.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- Must be self-directed, detail and customer service oriented
- Provide problem-solving skills and sound judgment
- Experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Grounds, and Custodial
- Effective verbal and listening communications skills
- Be able to communicate, as directed, with administrative, faculty, and staff
- Maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with members of the department and campus community
- Position requires adaptability, analyzing, assessing, calculating, decision making, dependability, good judgment, reading, memorizing, social skills, speaking, multitasking, and writing
- In addition to the position described above, you agree to perform other duties and responsibilities as shall be assigned by Head of School or other supervisor

- Regularly sit, talk and hear

- Handles a variety of hand and power tools
- Near-visual acuity needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts
- Depth perception, field of vision, and color vision needed in fitting and installing parts
- Exposed to noise and vibration from operating machinery
- Turns, bends and reaches
- Works in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments in a variety of weather conditions
- Works in different locations around 40 acre campus
Compensation: Anticipated compensation is $30.00 - $35.00 per hour depending on experience
