    Summary:  The high school athletic trainer/teacher will be responsible for providing preventive services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions to student-athletes participating in various sports programs at the high school level. Additionally, this position will involve teaching responsibilities related to health, sports medicine, or related subjects.

    Essential Functions

    • Implement injury prevention programs and strategies tailored to individual sports teams.
    • Conduct pre-participation evaluations and assessments to identify potential risks or health concerns.
    • Evaluate and assess injuries sustained during athletic activities and determine appropriate treatment plans.
    • Administer immediate and appropriate medical care for sports-related injuries or emergencies.
    • Provide first aid, CPR, and emergency medical techniques when necessary.
    • Coordinate with emergency services and healthcare providers for serious injuries or medical emergencies.
    • Develop and implement rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes.
    • Utilize therapeutic modalities and exercises to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation process.
    • Monitor progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide ongoing support throughout the recovery phase.
    • Deliver instruction in health, sports medicine, or related subjects to students.
    • Develop curriculum and lesson plans that align with educational standards and the needs of student
    • athletes.
    • Provide guidance and support to students interested in pursuing careers in athletic training or related fields.
    • Must teach 3 periods of Athletic Training per day
    • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
    • Communicate effectively with coaches, parents, athletes, and healthcare professionals regarding injury status and treatment plans.
    • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care for student-athletes.
    • Minimum of .6 teaching FTE combined with after-school Athletic Trainer duties.
    • Educate athletes, coaches, and staff on injury prevention techniques, proper nutrition, and general health and wellness.
    • Conduct workshops or training sessions on injury management and first aid protocols.
    • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, sharing insights into students' progress and achievements in the course.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay informed about education trends, teaching strategies, and curriculum enhancements in the content area.

    Equipment:  Essential equipment includes taping supplies(adhesive tape, pre-wrap, bandages0< emergency medical gear (AEDs, splints, splint kits), and diagnostic tools (penlights, thermometers).

    Travel Requirements:  Local travel to attend away games and athletic events, limited travel to attend district meetings.

    • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field (Master's degree preferred).
    • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
    • State licensure or eligibility for licensure as an athletic trainer.
    • Strong knowledge of sports injuries, emergency care, and rehabilitation techniques.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel with sports teams.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience working as an athletic trainer in a high school or collegiate setting.
    • Proficiency in using athletic training software and electronic medical records systems.
    • Familiarity with strength and conditioning programs.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
    • Valid Arizona Teaching certificate
    • Certification by the National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
    • CPR and First Aid Certifications

    Clearances:

    • Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination
    • Valid I-9 form
    • AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

     Working Environment:  The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Terms of Employment: 

    • Salary schedule commensurate with education and experience for this position
    • 188 day new teacher contract - per work calendar for this position
    • 186 returning teacher contract - per the work calendar for this position
    • Athletic Trainer Stipend as approved by Governing Board.
